The Lost Logo Of The 1975 New York Giants

In 1975, the New York Giants were a team without a country. They were in the wilderness. Their stadium in New Jersey was still being constructed, and the Yankees (the Giants’ old landlord) had kicked them out to do renovations.

So the Giants had no place to play home games, and to make matters worse, they were terrible. Facing an uncertain future, the team did the only thing they could do. They designed a new logo: an italics-mixed-case-disco-racing-stripe-NY emblem of questionable decision-making. It was the NFL uniform equivalent of a drunk tattoo. It was awesome. And it only lasted for that single season.

The Giants ended up playing through the year at Shea Stadium in Queens. In 1976, the team moved in to their home at the Meadowlands, and wasted no time in changing to a logo that was NY/NJ-neutral. It was their banner through two epic Super Bowl victories. [Source - Breadcity.org]

Google Keep: a basic note-taking app, or the start of something big?

When a note-taking app called Google Keep surfaced briefly the other day, it did so to considerable fanfare. This kind of service has been missing since Google killed off Notebook in 2009, and a competitor to Evernote or Simplenote seemed like something the company could do quite well. Turns out Keep was leaked only slightly ahead of its time — the app was officially announced this afternoon, and Keep is now available on the web and to Android users. Once we got past the myriad “Oops! An error occurred” messages that plagued Keep’s first minutes of life, we’ve spent a bit of time playing with the app — but a few minutes is really all it takes to get the idea.

Day One is a fantastic, refreshingly polished journaling app from Paul Mayne for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. I love it for general journaling (aka, a diary), but its flexible nature lends itself to any number of uses from a travel log, a work journal, baby books, a workout or diet log, and much more.

If you’re in the “I really want to try Day One but I have no idea what I’d use it for” camp, Paul rounded up a ton of blog posts people have written about all the unique uses they found.

I use Day One as my primary way of keeping track of notes/quotes/links for stories to write in the future — sort of a way of archiving thoughts. I love the quick access provided by the toolbar portion of the native Mac app paired with the iOS apps.

I like the movie log idea as well.
